Mrs. Jane Rex Wiles was born near Zanesville, Ohio, January 5, 1827 where she grew up to womanhood, and was married to A.B. Wiles, May 1, 1845. For 44 years they walked the path of life together. He died about sixteen years ago. She with her husband moved from Ohio to Iowa, and from there to Kansas in 1881, and has lived in and near Cherokee to the time of her death. Mrs. Wiles was converted when a young woman and for all these years she has been a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She has been in frail health for several years. Death however had no terrors for her. Her abiding faith in God took the fear away. She leaves five children, one son and four daughters to mourn her loss. We have known her ever since she came to Kansas. Our acquaintance has been such as to command respect. She was a great reader, kept in touch with the political and general topics of the day, so that she was able to converse on the current subjects before the people. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church by her pastor, Rev. W.T. Freeland and her remains were laid to rest in the Cherokee cemetery on Sunday.
