Lucina McCants died at her home in the west part of the city on Wednesday morning, June 5th, 1929, at the age of 63 years, 3 months and 12 days. She had been in very poor health for many months and the end was not unexpected. Her children were all with her. Mrs. McCants was born February 22, 1866, at Muscatine, Iowa, and at an early age moved to a farm near Cherokee with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Wiles, having lived in this vicinity more than 50 years. We have known her ever since we can remember, and she has been a very active worker in the Methodist church and was president of the Ladies Aid Society for a number of years. Her husband died about two years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Althea Taylor and Mrs. Shannon Clugston of Cherokee, and Mrs. Janie Jarrell of Pittsburg; two sons, William and Roger, both of Cherokee; a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Lisenbee; and eighteen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon by Rev. H.J. Sterling, and interment made in the Cherokee cemetery. Mrs. McCants was a very efficient worker and in her younger days was known as a fine bookkeeper. We have heard Mr. McCants tell how they would figure out a proposition before going into it, and he attributed much of his financial success to the ability of his wife to figure it out. Even before the passing of Mr. McCants, she had been ill, and he had taken her over to Eldorado Springs, and little did he think he would be called first.
