JANE BEAVERS WAS PAST 91 YEARS OF AGE AND HAD LIVED HERE MANY YEARS Mrs. Jane Beavers, one of the oldest, if not the oldest resident of Villisca, died at her home on West Second Street Tuesday morning at 1:50 at the advanced age of 91 years and 10 months. Mrs. Beavers had been confined to her bed for about two weeks prior to her death but was rational to the last. Jane Wade was born in Highland County, Ohio on April 9, 1823, and was the younger of Mr. and Mrs. John Wade's family of four. She was reared in Highland County, and in 1843 was married to A. J. Beavers. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive. Oe son, J. N. Beavers, died in South Omaha about seven months ago. Those who survive are Mrs. George Sams, living south of Villisca; Burch, of Villisca, F. P. of Hepburn; Mrs. Nathan A. Chase of Lebanon, Kansas, C. W. of Buffalo, Wyoming, and A. J. of nee Hepburn. All the children were present at their mother's bedside for several days prior to her death. Mrs. Beaves is also survived by a large number of other relatives in this vicinity and J. W. , J. A. , and T. H. Beavers are all nephews of the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Beavers moved with their children from Ohio to Iowa in 1866, settling in the easter part for short time. In March 1867, they came to Page County where they resided for years. At that tie Villisca was not known as a city and was spoken of in Page County as "the forks of the river." There wee only two stores here at the time and the Beavers family has figured prominently in the upbuilding of the city. Mr. Beavers died in 1872 and was buried in Villisca. Mr. Beavers resided on the farm in Page County, however, until 1903, when she moved with her son, Burch, to this city. Mrs. Beavers was possessed with remarkable vitality during her old age. She was very ambitious throughout her life and was always one of the prime workers for the upbuilding of the community in which she lived. Both Mr. and Mrs. Beavers were members of the Methodist Church in Ohio, but upon their removal here did not transfer their membership. The funeral services will be held from the one Thursday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. E. S. Menoher, pastor of the Villisca Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Many friends and relatives are expected from a distance as Mrs. Beavers was widely known over this part of the state.
