Description	:	Janet L. Milner Weston, age 80, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa. Janet was born July 11, 1933 near Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Frances "Elizabeth" (Smith) Thompson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1951 and attended Iowa Wesleyan at Mount Pleasant, Iowa. While in college she played basketball and was chosen to play on the All American Team at the 1st Worlds Games in South America. Her team won the title of World Champions. Janet was born July 11, 1933 near Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Frances "Elizabeth" (Smith) Thompson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1951 and attended Iowa Wesleyan at Mount Pleasant, Iowa. While in college she played basketball and was chosen to play on the All American Team at the 1st Worlds Games in South America. Her team won the title of World Champions. She was inducted into the Iowa Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame. Upon graduation, she earned her teaching degree. She taught school in Wall Lake, Iowa and Lewis, Iowa before substitute teaching in Elliott, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Donald Milner on July 25, 1954 in Elliott. They lived in Grant, Iowa before moving back to Elliott in 1963. Janet started working for Montgomery County National Bank in 1972 where she was the head book keeper for many years retiring in 1993 not long after her husband Don passed away in 1992. Janet was united in marriage to William Weston on July 8, 1995 in Elliott. They were married for 18 years when Bill preceded her in death in 2013. Janet loved gardening, camping, and boating for many years. She was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her parents; both husbands; brother: Glen Thompson; sister-in-law: Marilyn Thompson; and brothers-in-law: Larry Milner, Gary Buzick, and Robert Crossland. Survivors include her children: Vicki Hansen of Kansas City, MO; Brent Milner and wife Diane of Griswold, IA; and Joel Milner and wife Melanie of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Jackie Ditsworth and husband Kevin of Bondurant, IA; Andrea Milner of Chicago, IL; Christopher Milner of Scottsdale, AZ; Sarah Peterson and husband Zach of Iowa City, IA; and Nicholas Milner of Ames, IA; great grandchildren: Hannah and Brody Ditsworth and Victoria Milner; brothers: Jack Thompson of Red Oak, IA and Jerry Thompson and wife Kathy of Ankeny, IA; sisters: Jean Buzick of Webster City, IA and Margaret Crossland of Allen, TX; sisters-in-law: June Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; Dorothy Nelson and husband Russell "Swede" of Elliott, IA; and Darla Milner of Fairmont, MN; brothers-in-law: Gord Milner of Elliott, IA and Dick Milner and wife Karen of Elliott, IA; step-children: Sue Weston and husband Don Walztoni of River Falls, WI and Roy Weston and wife Lona of Elliott, IA; numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Nate Delisle officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Elliott Church of Christ. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
