Janet was born in Lucas County, Iowa, to the late Dennis E. and Thelma Leona Shinn Brammer, but grew up in California. Janet spent most of her life in Houston before moving to Teague after her husband’s retirement in 1998. Janet was a true animal lover and especially loved her bull, "George". Utsey, 76, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Teague Nursing Home. Burial will be in Dew Cemetery. Janet was born in Lucas County, Iowa, to the late Dennis E. and Thelma Leona Shinn Brammer, but grew up in California. Janet spent most of her life in Houston before moving to Teague after her husband’s retirement in 1998. Janet was a true animal lover and especially loved her bull, "George". Janet was a faithful Christian and was active in church life in Houston and after moving to Teague joined Eighth Avenue Baptist Church and continued to be active in numerous ministries there as long as her health permitted. Survivors include her husband, Nathan, of Teague; daughters, Sandra Still and husband, Ray, of New Braunfels, and Becky Staggs and husband, Paul, of Conroe; grandchildren: Mitchell Still and wife, Alicia, Emily Leykum and husband, Michael, and Lydia Staggs; great-grandsons, Jaycen Basinski and Henry Leykum; brother, Dan Brammer and wife, Maria; sisters, Marilyn Musick and Linda Neumann; step-children, MaryLynn Galloway and husband, Marvin, Calvin Utsey and wife, Brenda, and Jo Ann Miller; numerous step-grandchildren; two aunts, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
