Description	:	FUNERAL FOR MRS. JONGEWAARD HELD HERE ON WEDNESDAY Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Central Reformed church for Mrs. R.C. Jongewaard, 86, who died at her home a week after observing her birtday anniversary. She died Saturday morning Aug. 23. Mrs. Jongewaard, nee Jennie Ver Ploegh, was born in Salem, Ore., Aug. 16, 1866. Jongewaard, 86, who died at her home a week after observing her birtday anniversary. She died Saturday morning Aug. 23. Mrs. Jongewaard, nee Jennie Ver Ploegh, was born in Salem, Ore., Aug. 16, 1866. Her parents had migrated over the Oregon Trail in 1865. When she was two years old the family returned to Pella, Ia., by way of boat to New York and then overland to Pella. The trip took six months. She spent her childhood at Pella. Her father died when he was 42 and her mother later married William Baker. The family moved to Sioux County and settled on a farm near Hull in 1884. Jennie Ver Ploegh married Ringert Cornelis Jongewaard of Orange City May 21, 1885, and they lived on a farm between here and Orange City for the first 10 years of their married life. Later they moved to Sioux Center where Mrs. Jongewaard has made her home ever since. Nine children were born to the couple, all of whom survive. They are Nellie (Mrs. Lewis Redeker of Denver, Colo.); Dr. Neal of Sioux Center; Conrad of Inglewood, Calif.; Lizzie (Mrs. Gerrit De Mots of Sioux Center); Helena (Mrs. Thos. McDonald of Cleveland, Ohio); Mina, at home from India; Maria, who has cared for het mother at home; Alice (Mrs. J.E. Kirkman of Madera, Calif.); Harold of Rock Rapids. Also survivng are 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, and a step-sister, Mrs. Albert Ten Hakken of Hull. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1915 and by four sisters, Mrs. John De Wild of Hull, Mrs. Henry Van Zee of Middleburg, Mrs. Hulstein Van Drimmelen of Sioux Center and Mrs. Wesselink Rozeboom of Sioux Center. She was a member of the Central Reformed church of Sioux Center for almost 50 years, having had her membership transferred from th First Reformed church of Sioux Center. She was a faithful member of the Helping Hand Society, serving as President for 20 years, when all the aged members joined The Women's Missionary society. Sioux Center News 1952-08-28.
