Funeral services were conducted at the First Lutheran Church of Milford, Iowa on Friday, March 30, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. The family devotions were in the church at 10:45 a.m. Mr. Sykes, the son of John and Cora (Morey) Sykes, was born in Union County, SD on January 31, 1913. Funeral services were conducted at the First Lutheran Church of Milford, Iowa on Friday, March 30, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. The family devotions were in the church at 10:45 a.m. Mr. Sykes, the son of John and Cora (Morey) Sykes, was born in Union County, SD on January 31, 1913. He lived his youth near Akron, and received his education in Akron, graduating from the Akron High School. He continued his education at a college in Grand Island, NE. Jay was united in marriage to Marion E. Hultgren at Alcester, SD on February 22, 1935. Following their marriage, they farmed in Union County, SD and later moved to Spencer, Iowa, where they resided for a year and a half and Jay began working for the Sioux City Journal. In 1946, they moved to Milford and Jay continued working for the Journal and was employed with them for twenty-seven in a half years. Jay was also a sales associate for the Sioux Falls Monument Co. for seven years. He died at his home in Milford on March 26, 2001. Jay is survived by his wife: Marion of Milford; his daughter and her husband: Judy and Jon Eriksson of Somonauk, IL; two sisters: Dorothea Wetzel of Cedar Rapids, IA and Bonnie Hoschler of Sherwood, AR; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Jason, an infant brother, Clifford, and one sister, Pearl Hennessee. Jay was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Milford.
