Adams County Free Press, Corning, Iowa, Thursday, 25 Dec 1947, p. 16, col. 3: Jay William McCain, son of Amanda and William McCain, was born in Buena Vista county, Wisconsin, April 24, 1875, and passed away at Nodaway, Iowa, December 15, 1947, aged 72 years, 7 months and 20 days. In 1883 he with his parents, came to a farm near Schaller, Iowa, moving in 1898 to a farm near Nodaway, Iowa. In this community he spent most of the remaining years of his life. He was united in marriage to Alma Parcher of Nodaway In 1906. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church, serving as usher for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and an infant sister, and leaves to mourn his loss his brothers: Frank of Creston, Iowa; James of California; his adopted sister, Mrs. Eva. Rathburn of Sioux, City, Ia.; a number of nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Nodaway at 2:00 o'clock Thursday, December 18. 1947, in charge of Rev. L. H. Athey of Villisca. Pall bearers were Clyde Vaughn, Chas. Wood, Fred Carruthers, Oscar Starr, Ted Kennedy and Frank Kennedy.Music was by Mrs. Harold Everett with Mrs. Martin Taylor accompanist. Interment was in the Nodaway cemetery
