Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. in the Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating were the Rev. Paul Miles and the Rev. Jimmy McKenzie. Burial, under the direction of McKenzie Funeral Home, Andrews Chapel, followed in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Mercer was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Savannah, Ga., a daughter of John Edwin Blakely and Frances Minnie Blakely. She was educated in Williamsburg County. She served faithfully beside her husband, the Rev. Thomas Durant Mercer, in the Bloomingvale, Greeleyville, Wando, Moncks Corner, Coward, Bamburg, Kingsburg, Rock Bluff, and Maxton Pentecostal Holiness churches. She was a member of the S.C. Pentecostal Holiness Minister's Wives Fellowship, the Brotherhood Association and the Women's Auxiliary, serving in numerous local positions. After their ministerial retirement, they became members of the Andrews Pentecostal Holiness church, where she served in numerous positions and was the teacher of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for many years. Surviving are a son, Blakely D. Mercer of Summerville; three daughters, Judith M. Cooper of Salters, Tommie Ann Tisdale and Wanda M. Ray, both of Andrews; four sisters, Gladys B. Bath and Lynn B. Dubose, both of Andrews, Betty Jo B. Benton of Georgetown, and Joyce McCrea of Salters; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
