Jeanetta was the youngest of three children. She passed away October 24, 2009, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 95 years, eight months and two days. Read More	STEIDER, JEANNETTA HELENA—Jeannetta Helena Knutzen Steider was born February 22, 1914, in rural Bruning, to Henry and Lena (Edzards) Knutzen. Jeanetta was the youngest of three children. She passed away October 24, 2009, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 95 years, eight months and two days. Jeannetta’s youth was spent in the rural Bruning community where she attended rural elementary school and Bruning High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. At the age of 18, she moved to Shickley to work. This is where she met her future husband, William Steider. They were married in Belleville, Kan., on May 4, 1935. To this union five children were born, Donald Frederick, Larry Leroy, Billy Joe, Kay Frances, and James Allen. Jeannetta and Bill farmed in the Shickley, Western and Strang area before moving to Geneva. Jeannetta worked a short period for McPeck Produce and then began her cooking career. She worked at the Hill restaurant for five years and when an opening at the Fillmore County Hospital became available in 1961, she began a 25-year cooking career there. Bill and Jeannetta were very unfortunate to lose two of their fine sons. Donald passed away of Hodgkin’s Disease at the age of 30 on December 22, 1965, and Bill died of Leukemia in June of 1991, at the age of 49. Bill and Jeannetta transferred their church membership to the Geneva United Methodist Church where Jeannetta remained a very loyal member for over 30 years. She also belonged to a Bible study class. Jeannetta enjoyed gardening, taking care of her houseplants, playing cards and loved going fishing. Jeannetta was a devoted wife and mother and took great pride in her children’s accomplishments. One of her greatest joys was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jeannetta’s husband Bill passed away in 1982. On July 17, 1985, she moved into the Pioneer Manor apartments where she made many friends. She was very active at the Senior Center, belonging to a card club and playing in the Kitchen Senior Swinger’s Band. Jeanetta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; sons, Donald and Billy, daughter-in-law, Nancy Steider, brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Emilie Knutzen; and brother-in-law, Kelly Steider. She is survived by her children, Larry Steider, Kay and Larry Carlson, and Jim Steider and Kim; sister, Frances Steider; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva, on October 27, with the Rev Ron Harris officiating. Sondra Myers accompanied the congregation who sang “Here I Am Lord” and “Amazing Grace.” Casket bearers were Scott Steider, Amber Delancey, Hillary (Steider) Mijangos, Doug Melton, Layle Kennel and John Steider.
