RESERVE NEWS The condition of Jeff Walker, who has been seriously ill with appendicitis at Clayton, New Mexico, is steadily improving, and he hopes to be able to be on his feet again in a short time. His sister, Miss Georgia Walker, writes that she will return home soon, as the Walker family no longer need her assistance. She also writes that they have been having a great deal of trouble with the water supply in Clayton. Repeated accidents at the water plant, together with the natural scarcity of water in that section of the country, have caused the city on several occasions to be without water for hours at a time. —The Hiawatha Daily World (Hiawatha, KS) Wed July 18, 1917, p.4. DEATHS. Walker—Jeff W. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Walker, of Reserve, died at his home at Clayton, New Mexico, Wednesday night. The news of the death of this bright and likable Brown county young man surely brings sorrow to the many friends he and members of his family have in this community. Mr. Walker went to New Mexico about three years ago for his health. He underwent an operation for appendicitis nine months ago and he was supposed to be on the way to recovery. Complications developed and Friday another operation was made for abdominal trouble. His mother was at his bedside when the end came. Jeff Walker was brought up in the Padonia neighborhood and later on moved with his parents to Reserve, where he assisted in the store. He was married to Prudie Read Oct. 13, 1916. Mrs. Read and the nine months old child survive. Jeff Walker was the sort who made friends. Today those friends are everywhere expressing sympathy for the young wife, the babe, the parents and other close relatives. The body will be brought to Reserve for burial and will probably arrive Saturday. —The Hiawatha Daily World (Hiawatha, KS) Thur Mar 21, 1918, p.1. Funeral of Jeff Walker. The funeral service of Jeff Walker was held at the J. R. Walker home in Reserve Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Ewers, of the Christian church had charge of the service. The large attendance of friends and neighbors at the service showed the high esteem of the Walker family in this community.
