Description	:	Jenkins 'Jenks" Cribb was a son of Mary "Polly" Cribb. His father is shown on his death certificate as Jenks Cribb, Sr., but no evidence of an older Jenks or Jenkins Cribb has been found, so this may be an error made by his distraught widow under the stress of losing her husband, as happened frequently on death certificates. His father is shown on his death certificate as Jenks Cribb, Sr., but no evidence of an older Jenks or Jenkins Cribb has been found, so this may be an error made by his distraught widow under the stress of losing her husband, as happened frequently on death certificates. Jenks, a farmer, was married to Penny Lacewell from Bladen County, North Carolina. They resided at Rte. 3, Mullins at the time of his death. Jenks Cribb's birth date of 1882 is from his World War I Draft Card, which doesn't agree with the birth date of 1893 on his death certificate.(See below.) When he signed the card on 12 September 1918 he was employed by S. W. Smith, and resided at Rte. 1, Mullins. Jenks died of a cerebral hemorrhage at age 55. He resided at Rte. 1, Mullins at that time. His name is spelled "Jinks" on his death certificate. According to the research of Ernie Cribb, Jenks and Penny Cribb had the following children (the list may be incomplete): Hampton Cribb King Cribb Flossie Cribb Janie Cribb Lou Cribb Fred Cribb George H. Cribb J. C. Cribb (Jenks, Jr.) Massie Cribb Howard Cribb Jenks has no grave marker. His burial site at the Cribb Cemetery near his wife, Penny, was confirmed by their granddaughter, Donna. The informant on his death certificate was his wife, Penny Lacewell Cribb. The funeral director was H. L. Jackson of Marion. Jenks death certificate gives his birth date as 17 March 1893. Ernie T. Cribb gave his birth year as 1894. But Jenks himself gave his age and date of birth on his World War I Army Registration Card, stating he was 36 years old and born on 10 December 1882; he signed the card in September 1918. Additionally, a birthdate in the 1890s would place him beyond the age range of his siblings, as shown in census records. The 1900 census shows him still in his mother's household at age 15, the youngest of her children, born in December, 1884. --------------- Further research by Cribb descendant Lynda Cribb Solter resulted in the discovery of Jenks' death certificate and his World War I Army Registration Card on Ancestry.com.
