Description	:	Jennie, daughter of William Henry and Mary Steel Chandler, was born at Sugarhouse Ward, Salt Lake in 1880. She moved with her parents and sister Susan to Egin Bench in 1884. Her mother was not very well, so Jennie had to work at a very early age, to rock the babies and help care for them. But her parents insisted she go to school to learn reading and writing. Read More	Jennie, daughter of William Henry and Mary Steel Chandler, was born at Sugarhouse Ward, Salt Lake in 1880. She moved with her parents and sister Susan to Egin Bench in 1884. Her mother was not very well, so Jennie had to work at a very early age, to rock the babies and help care for them. But her parents insisted she go to school to learn reading and writing. Since Jennie had worked so young she was really quite grownup for fourteen and a half years when she married Leonard Jones. The death of her mother in 1898 and the later re-marrying of her father, seemed to require Jennie to be mother to her brothers and sisters. In 1903 with the Lucas' and many others they moved to Stavely, Alberta and took out a homestead. Here she worked hard, to care for her children and feed and clothe and keep them warm through the long cold winters. Uncle Leonard liked music, dancing, singing, reading, and sports. Picnicing, berry-picking and trips to town were always pleasures to them. They did not build much on the farm as they bought a home and moved to town in the early twenties. In town Jennie could again exercise her instincts of mothering many others. She had boarders, young men trying to get ahead, she enjoyed her great motherliness. Jennie had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, shich she was able to emplant in the hearts of her children. She was a teacher by nature, teaching in the organizations of the Church and was a great speaker in the meetings. She took an active part in the commmunity projects and exercised her right to vote for her choice. When sickness or death came to the homes of church members or friends, and on accasion for the birth of a new baby, Jennie could be found there too. Doing her part. Jennie knew how to sew and make quilts. I wonder how many she made? And how many patters she tried? She made the ‘Double Wedding King' and many more. She would knit and knit for her families and for theRed Cross through two wars. She crocheted to make pretty things for her home and to give as gifts to her family and friends. One was sure of a delightful dinner, when invited to the home of Aunt Jennie---cooked well and searved with great hospitality. Jennie lived to enjoy her fiftieth anniversary and longer. And she was a widow for many years with her neighbor "watching out" for her—a return for all her many kindnesses. She had problems with leg veins and her stomach which caused her to enter the hospital. This was followed by a stroke which caused her death. She was buried by her husband and son in the Stavely cemetery.
