Lead Daily Call newspaper, January 19, 1935 - "MRS. CARETTO PASSES AWAY. Old Time Resident of Lead Succumbs At the Home of Her Grandson Here. Mrs. Jennie Caretto, 85, old time resident of Lead, died at the home of her grandson, Frank Caretto, 120 North Alert street, last night at 11:45 o'clock. Mrs. Caretto came to the Black Hills from Italy in 1881 and has made her home in Lead since that time. She was born November 25, 1849, in San Georgio, Italy. She was preceded to the grave by her husband in 1906, a daughter, Mary, in 1925, and a son, John, in 1886. Besides her grandson she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Hayes, of Wenatchee, Wash., and Mrs. Katherine Cowley, of Butte, Mont., and a brother, George Diovannus, of Italy. Mrs. Caretto was a member of the Women's Catholic Order of Forester and of St. Patrick's Catholic church. The body will be taken to her grandson's home to await time for the services, arrangements for which are being held up pending word from Mrs. Caretto's daughters." Lead Daily Call, January 21, 1935 - "Caretto Rites Are Tomorrow. Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Caretto, a well known Lead pioneer, whose death occurred at the home of her grandson, Frank Caretto, 120 Alert street, shortly before midnight Friday night, are announced to be held from St. Patrick's church tomorrow morning at 9:30 o'clock. Her two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Hayes of Wenatchee, Wash., and Mrs. Kathryn Cowley of Butte, Mont., have been delayed by the storm but will arrive tomorrow morning to be present at the funeral. Active pallbearers will include Guy Ferrero, Con Green, James Ruffatto, Felix Ferrero, George Julius, Andrew Julius. Honorary pallbearers are Victor Toscano, Charles Borgetti, Tony Bartolino, William Lang, and Stephen Cappa. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery by the side of the deceased woman's husband, and a daughter, Mary." Lead Daily Call, January 22, 1935 - "Caretto Services Are Held Today. Friends of the late Mrs. Jennie Caretto, old timer of Lead, and of her family gathered at St. Patrick's Catholic church this morning for requiem high mass. The mass was sung by the Rev. William J. Boat, and the Rev. M.S. Roach preached the sermon. Mrs. Ray Carroll sang the 'Ave Maria,' Miss Helen Sarich sang 'O Salutaris' and Miss Helen Morganti sang 'Absent.' Interment was made in the family lot in Calvary cemetery in South Lead, with the following escort: honorary Anton Bertolero, Victor Toscano, Charles Borgetti, Tony Bartolino, William Lang and Stephen Cappa; active - Guy Ferrero, Con Green, James Ruffatto, Felix Ferrero, George Julius and Andrew Julius. Mrs. Katheryn Cowley, of Butte, Mont., and Mrs. Margaret Hayes, of Wenatchee, Wash., daughters of the deceased, arrived in Newcastle last night and were brought to Lead by automobile to attend the funeral services."
