Description	:	Jennie Estella Smith Slater, 98, formerly of Dayton, Iowa, died peacefully at her home in Woodleaf, NC, on Monday, May 30, 2022. She was born January 20, 1924 in Dayton, Iowa, to the late Lloyd and Naomi Dugger Smith. She was married to the late Donald Slater of Dayton, Iowa for 59 years. She spent most of her life as a farmer's wife, taking wonderful care of both her family and the workers on the farm. Read More	Jennie Estella Smith Slater, 98, formerly of Dayton, Iowa, died peacefully at her home in Woodleaf, NC, on Monday, May 30, 2022. She was born January 20, 1924 in Dayton, Iowa, to the late Lloyd and Naomi Dugger Smith. She was married to the late Donald Slater of Dayton, Iowa for 59 years. She spent most of her life as a farmer's wife, taking wonderful care of both her family and the workers on the farm. She loved gardening; her many flowers were so beautiful, and she cared for them herself until recent years. She also treasured special time with her family watching the younger generations grow, and spent many hours passing along stories and wisdom. Jennie was a member of United Methodist Church in Dayton, Iowa. After moving to Woodleaf, NC in 2012 to be near family, she attended Woodleaf United Methodist Church. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Terry Slater; son-in-law Dyral Fessler; grandson Nathan Slater; great-granddaughter Shannon Wisen; brothers Max Smith, Wayne Smith, Jerry Smith, Gene Smith, Bill Smith; sisters Olive Dryer, Marvel Mossing. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Betty Tschopp (Tim) of Salisbury, NC, and Donna Fessler of Woodleaf, NC; grandchildren Kevin Fessler (Jana), Troy Slater (Laurie), Kirk Fessler (Anita), Larisa Prothero; 9 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date in Dayton, Iowa. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Slater family. Online condolences may be made at www.summersettfuneralhome.com.
