She will be greatly missed by many, but we celebrate her long, full life and we rejoice in the knowledge that she now rests in God's grace, beyond care and pain. Jennie was born in Edmonton two years after her parents, Hendrik and Petertje Schoonekamp, immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands. At the age of two years her parents moved to what later became known as Neerlandia, where they homesteaded and raised their family. Jennie married Ike Nanninga on March 25, 1934. The couple made their home and raised their family of five children in Neerlandia, where they lived until 1963 at which time they moved to Edmonton. Jennie continued to live in Edmonton until her death. Jennie is lovingly remembered by her five children, Manny (Lois), Henry (Rose), Alvin (Irene), Patricia (Peter) and Ron (Hazel). The brightest lights of her life were her 23 grandchildren and she also took great joy in her 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by sisters Annie Tuininga and Rulie Nanninga and brother Albert (Clara) Schoonekamp. Jennie was predeceased by her husband, Ike, on May 19, 1964, her granddaughter Lynn Nanninga on February 1, 2002, and her daughter-in-law Joanne Nanninga on February 23, 2010. A Service celebrating the life of Jennie will be held in the Neerlandia Christian Reformed Church, Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Interment service 1:30 P.M., Neerlandia Cemetery with viewing immediately prior to interment service. The family is very thankful to the staff at Touchmark at Wedgewood and McConnell Place West for the love and excellent care they have given to Jennie. Memorial donations may be made to the Emmanuel Home or a charity on one's choice. ___________________________________________________________
