Read More	McDONALD, JERALD DEANE DEANE--Jerald Deane McDonald passed away at the Veterans hospital in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, January 31, 1948, aged 27 years, 5 months and 3 days. Death was due to injuries received in an airplane crash near Henderson, January 17. Deane was a very popular young man and he had many friends. The entire community was grieved at his untimely death. Deane was born in Geneva, Neb., August 14, 1920. He attended school here, graduating from high school with the class of 1938. He engaged in war work on the west coast and attended University of California at Los Angeles before entering the service November 5, 1942. He served as a combat engineer ranger in the Southwest Pacific area, and held the rank of technician, fifth grade, at the time of his discharge. He saw action with the 1st Marine division on New Britain and with the 24th Army division in Netherlands, East Indies. He was awarded the usual theater medals including three Bronze Stars and a Spearhead. He was discharged October 13, 1945. After his discharge Deane attended Columbia University in New York City and the University of Nebraska. He had lately entered the insurance business in Lincoln. He was united in marriage to Miss Madeline Beagle at Findlay, O., January 6, 1946. He is survived by his wife and infant son, David Deane, born less than twenty-four hours after the father's passing, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oval McDonald of Geneva, a sister Mrs. John Ehly of Sutton, a brother, Bill, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira McDonald and George Wright of Geneva; an aunt, Mrs. Ed. Myers, and an uncle, Claude McDonald, a niece, four cousins, besides a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Geneva at 10 a. m. Tuesday, February 3, Rev. James F. Gilroy officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Military honors were conferred by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Nebraska Signal 12 February 1948 page 1.
