Description	:	Fred Connolly Sr. of Queen Anne, a local farmer and former Orphans Court judge, died peacefully at home on Friday, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93. The son of the late Charles C. and Anna Slaughter Connolly, Jerome Frederick Connolly was born on October 25, 1918, and was raised on Kingsdale Farm in Queen Anne's County. Read More	Fred Connolly Sr. of Queen Anne, a local farmer and former Orphans Court judge, died peacefully at home on Friday, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93. The son of the late Charles C. and Anna Slaughter Connolly, Jerome Frederick Connolly was born on October 25, 1918, and was raised on Kingsdale Farm in Queen Anne's County. He attended a one-room school at Willoughby, and was a 1936 graduate of Tri-County High School in Queen Anne. In 1940, he married the love of his life, Marie Anna Schauber, of Chestertown. For a year and a half, Fred worked for Roy Mitchell at his grocery store in Kentmore Park near Kennedyville. Then in 1942, he returned to his father's farm which he later bought. He lived, farmed, raised his family, and enjoyed the rest of his full life with Marie on the farm that has been in the family since the Civil War and is a Maryland Century Farm. Fred was known for his quick wit, his generosity, and his wonderful sense of humor and fairness. He was a hard-working farmer who loved his family and had many friends. He was a true Eastern Shore gentleman who was cherished by his family. He served the county and community where he lived all of his life and was a member and director of the Queen Anne's County Farm Bureau. He was also a past president and member of the Chesapeake Ruritan Club. He was an active member of the Queen Anne's County Forestry Board. He was also an active member of Old St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Cordova, which he served as a trustee for several years. In 1974, Fred was elected Judge of the Orphans Court of Queen Anne's County for four terms. He retired from farming in the early 1980s. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Marie; four sons, Fred Connolly Jr. and his wife Honesty of Easton; Jim and his wife Nancy of Galena; Bob and his wife Joy of Easton; Gary and his wife Connie of Denton; two daughters, Patricia Connolly and Rita Hill, both of Easton; 14 grandchildren: Brian, Fred III, Dianna, Curt, Bobby, Mark, David, Jason, Paul, Chad, Kristin, Ashley, Macey, and Jack; and 10 great-grandchildren: Travis, Madeline (Maddy), Abigail, Noah, Shelby, Ava, Natalie, Owen, Elise, and Justin; as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit between 5 and 7 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Centreville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Mission Church, 13209 Church Lane, Cordova, on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Fred's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a favorite charity in Fred's memory.
