Description	:	Jerome John Weier, age 89 of Hurley, South Dakota passed away on March 17, 2017 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 21 at St. Boniface, Idylwilde Catholic Church, rural Freeman, SD with Fr Randy Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors. A wake service and rosary will be at 7:00 on Monday, March 20 at the church. Pallbearers are Grandsons and honorary Pallbearers are Granddaughters. Jerome was born on October 23, 1927 in Salem township, Turner County, SD. He was the eleventh child born to his parents, John and Christina (Goettertz) Weier. He attended grade school at Salem Dist. #47. Jerome entered the Army in November 1950. He spent his service at Ft. Sill, OK as a cook and baker. He was discharged as a Corporal in 1952. When he returned home, he farmed with his brother Herbert. On June 8, 1955, Jerome married Helen Heirigs and they moved to the Heirigs homestead where they lived for 40 years. In 1995, they moved to Turkey Ridge where he enjoyed his retirement. Jerome served on the school board for School Dist. #83, the church council and cemetery board for many years. He was a life long member of Idylwilde Catholic Church. He was always willing to help a neighbor when help was needed. He belonged to the Hurley Legion. He did woodworking as a hobby and liked music, dancing, hugs, and his cars. He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Gene in 1975, his parents, John and Christina, and his brothers and sisters: Eva, Leon, John, Francis, Mae, Freeda, Gert, Herbert, Lawrence, Victor, Dorothy, Vincent, and LuVerne. He was a loving husband and a caring father and grandfather. May his soul find everlasting peace with God.
