He was born July 31, 1932, in Carbon Hill, Ohio, son of the late Willard S. and Esther Evans Matheny. He was married to Doris Potts Matheny, who survives, for 64 years. He was a retired laborer for AT&T. In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by his son, Billy Joe (Jill) Matheny of Baltimore; grandchildren, Tracy Matheny of Pickerington, Brian Matheny of Columbus, Greg (Melissa) Groves of Pickerington and Kacie Groves of Pickerington; six great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (Ben) Spencer of Logan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Jean Ann Matheny in 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating.
