Description	:	Jess Arthur Brewer of 15725 County Road 34, Rt. 3, Sterling, died Thursday at his home. He was 87. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Monday from Chaney Walters Funeral Home, the Rev. Keith Watson officiating. Military graveside rites by the Sterling American Legion Post No. 20, and burial will follow in Riverside cemetery. Mr. Brewer was born March 31, 1897 in Big Springs, Neb., the son of James and Isabelle Rice Brewer. He moved with his parents to a farm northwest of the Sterling Reservoir, received his education at the Methodist Church and Sterling schools, farmed for a brief time at Sutherland, Neb., before entering the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during World War I. Following his discharge from military service, Mr. Brewer returned to Sterling, married Maude L. Trimmer, Dec. 24, 1919 in Friend, Neb., and farmed for Bill Tetsell before purchasing a farm north of Sterling in 1929, operating farming and ranching activities for 55 years. He semi-retired from farming two years ago, but continued to live on the farm and was active in its operation.Mrs. Brewer died Oct. 9, 1953.Mr. Brewer was a member of Christ United Methodist Church,Sterling American Legion Post No.20, the Last Squad and the Jake Uhrig Post No. 3541, Sterling Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Florence M. Grimm; a son, Elmo Arthur Brewer, both of Sterling; a brother, Paul E. Brewer of Kingman, Ariz.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Chaney-Walters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
