K. & T. had laid its tracks. Besides... Read More	Obituary: JESSE LEE DODDS Jesse Lee Dodds, one of Henry and St. Clair county's old citizens, passed to his reward May 18th. Mr. Dodds was sick but a few weeks and his many friends were startled to hear of his death. Mr. Dodds was born in Cooper county, August 31, 1846. His parents settled west of Montrose near Mt. Hope church. He saw farms and towns carved out of the range where he had once herded cattle and horses. He was one of those who lived here before Appleton City was started or the M. K. & T. had laid its tracks. Besides his wife and two sons, Elmer and Lester, he leaves three sisters and one brother to mourn his departure. There were twelve children in the Dodds family and but four are left. He was married to Miss Sallie Turner, Sept. 23, 1877. Mr. Dodds was converted in a revival at Mt. Hope church in 1890, held by J. Cal Litteral. His last days were those of a brave man and a christian. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday morning. The very large number of old friends and neighbors who gathered at his funeral was an indication of the friendship of those who knew him best. A large number of people from his old neighborhood were present at the services. The remains were laid to rest in Appleton City cemetery. He had lived at his home eight miles southwest of Appleton City since 1881. He with his sons were among the substantial farmers of the community. The feeling of the family and that of his many friends is voiced in these words: "A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is still; A place is vacant in our home That never can be filled. _____________ CARD OF THANKS The gratitude of our hearts goes out to those kind friends and neighbors who by their tender actions and thoughtful words ministered to and comforted us during the sickness and death of our husband and father.
