Description	:	Joan Ardell Christianson, 67, Kenmare, lost her courageous battle against cancer on Friday, April 4, 2003, in the Kenmare hospital. Joan was born August 5, 1935, to Guy and Gladys (Donnelly) Johnsen who farmed east of Kenmare, ND. She was a 1953 graduate of Kenmare High School and Interstate Business College of Fargo. Joan was born August 5, 1935, to Guy and Gladys (Donnelly) Johnsen who farmed east of Kenmare, ND. She was a 1953 graduate of Kenmare High School and Interstate Business College of Fargo. On December 30, 1956 she married Ellis Christianson. They lived on their farm nine miles southwest of Kenmare. An active member of the community, Joan served her church, Nazareth Lutheran, as a member of the Dorcas Circle and the quilters group. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for 25 years; the Eastern Star and an advisor to the Rainbow Girls; the Birthday Club, and the Blind Date Club. She also worked with the Soil Conservation Service for several years planting trees. Joan was an outdoors person. She had a passion for farm work, especially driving the tractor and the combine. Besides doing her housework, you would often find her cutting grass around the farmyard or planting and tending the garden. She enjoyed family get-togethers and took particular delight in her four grandchildren. For recreation Joan and Ellis enjoyed traveling. In addition to seeing many of the sites in the U.S., they visited Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands and Mexico on a number of occasions, as well as Okinawa. They also loved to go camping and boating. Survivors: Husband, Ellis Christianson; son, Greg Christianson, both of Kenmare; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Terry Marr of Wichita, KS; grandchildren: Tyler, Tawnya, Tracey, and Timothy Marr, all of Wichita, KS; mother, Gladys Johnsen, Kenmare; two brothers and their wives: Don and Leanore Johnsen, Thief River Falls, MN, and Lyle and Sue Johnsen, Marshall, MN; two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Jean and Robert E. Johnson, Bismarck, ND, and Gail and R. Dale Lindquist, Idaho Falls, ID, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her father, Guy H. Johnsen of rural Kenmare, ND. Funeral: Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND. Visitation: Tuesday, April 8, 2003, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare. Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. Officiant: Rev.
