Read More	Daily Freeman Journal December 23, 1965 Young Lehigh Girl Killed Instantly In Gun Accident A 12-year old Lehigh girl, Joann Sundine, was instantly killed last evening when hit by a blast of a .410 shotgun accidentally fired by her brother, Howard Sundine, 11, it was reported today by Webster County Sheriff Ray McCoy. Sheriff McCoy, whose office today was continuing an investigation into the tragedy, said the boy apparently had picked up the gun, without realizing it still had a shell in it, and had pulled the trigger. The blast entered the back part of his sister's head, causing instant death. The girl's body was found on the davenport at the youngsters' farm home located six miles northeast of Lehigh. Sheriff McCoy said the only other person at home at the time was the youngsters' grandmother, Lena Osborn. The sheriff said the boy ran to the home of a neighbor, Russell Long, who notified authorities. Time of the accident was about 10 p.m. Parents of the children are Wendell Sundine of Webster City and Mrs. Shirley Plahn of Rural Lehigh. Funeral services for Joann Joy Sundine will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist church in Stratford with the Rev. Walter Phelps officiating and with burial in the Richey cemetery near Stratford. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 Monday morning when it will be taken to the church. Joann Joy Sundine, daughter of Wendell and Shirley Sundine, was born May 5, 1953, at Boone. The family resided at Stratford and she received her early education in that vicinity. For the past two years she had been residing near Lehigh and was attending the seventh grade at Central Webster school at Burnside. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Shirley Plahn of Lehigh; Wendell Sundine of Webster City; three brothers, LeRoy, Donald and Howard Sundine, all at home; two half-sisters, Patty Plahn and Donna Sundine; a step-brother and a step-sister, James Morgan and Sheila Morgan; her grandmothers, Mrs. Jane Plahn of Pilot Mound and Mrs. Lena Osborn of Lehigh.
