Description	:	Joanna Cahill was the daughter of Daniel Cahill and Catherine Walsh, and was said to have been born in Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ. Joanna's obituary says that at about age six her family moved to Pennsylvania where she lived for about two years. From PA her family moved to what is now North Vernon, IN. There she attended school, private and parochial. The Catholic school was the Young Ladies' Academy, under the direction of the Sisters of Province. Read More	Joanna Cahill was the daughter of Daniel Cahill and Catherine Walsh, and was said to have been born in Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ. Joanna's obituary says that at about age six her family moved to Pennsylvania where she lived for about two years. From PA her family moved to what is now North Vernon, IN. There she attended school, private and parochial. The Catholic school was the Young Ladies' Academy, under the direction of the Sisters of Province. Family history says that her future husband, Hugh Roney, Jr., saw her at the school and asked her father for permission to marry her. One version says she was in a convent. Hugh and Joanna lived in Morgan County, IN through 1866, then moved to Starke Co. She had thirteen children, but only five lived beyond a very young age. The names known are Henry C., John Joseph, Thomas, Edward, Peter Horncastle, and Hugh. Hugh was born May 1870 (per census), but did not live long. After Hugh died, Joanna lived in turn with her sons Edward and Peter. She was living with son Edward in North Judson, Starke Co., IN at the time of her death. Her obituary states that Joanna was the oldest sister of James Cahill and was also survived by a sister, Margaret McNellis. Both siblings were living in Indianaplois at the time of Joanna's death. Joanna's obituary also says that she was baptised at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, the month of her birth.
