He married Anna Sophia Elisabeth Peterjohann (gravestone to right) 22 Jul 1836 in Ladbergen. The couple immigrated to America circa 1837 where their children were born. After his first wife, Sophia nee Peterjohann, died in 1865, he married and he and second wife moved to Iowa. He died 2 December 1886 Garner, Hancock, Iowa. In the last year of his life he lost his strength very quickly; at last he became so weak he wished to depart and be with Christ. This wish is now fulfilled. His end was peaceful. … Fifty years ago he emigrated from Ladbergen, Prussia. His first wife and one child preceded him into blessed eternity.
