Description	:	Johann Adam Hay was probably born (or baptized) Feb 12, 1738, Gerhardsbrunn, near Zweibrucken, Germany, which would mean that he was the son of Johann Michael Hay/Hoh and a brother of Valentine, Simon & Francis of Brothers Valley, Pa. Several Lines of this family have the story that they descended from a Scottish man who fled Scotland to Germany and entered the army there, possibly in the 1600s. -- 1752 Adam emigrated to America arriving on the Phoenix, his brothers (and maybe his father) J. Simon, J. Valentine & J. Francis came in 1767. -- spent some time in Northampton Co, Pennsylvania where he met and married his wife, Anna Maria "Mary" Boyer, in 1770. In Oct, 1763, 39 men of Northampton Co formed a militia to repel the Indians. It was signed by Adam Hay and 38 others. [from “History of Northampton County, Pennsylvania”, chapter 20.] -- In the 1770s he moved to Berkeley Co., (W)Va, which is only about 50 miles SW, across the narrow strip of Maryland into the eastern end of WV. From here he participated in the Revolutionary War (in a non-military capacity), and knew George Washington. He bought land there in 1796. -- Dec 1800, Fairfield Co, Oh was created. In 1801 Adam sold his 184 acres in (W)VA and moved about 150 miles straight west to Amanda twp, Fairfield Co., OH where he died in 1803, Mary in 1815. They owned land just north of the village of Amanda. He signed his will "Adam Hoh." Not sure exactly where he was buried, but it was somewhere in the vicinity of Amanda, Amanda township, Fairfield County, Ohio. One of his sons? was buried in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery there. But Adam may have been buried at his home place just north of Amanda. Children: 1. Barbara Hay Hartong, 1771-1874, d Jefferson Co, IN 2. John Hay, 1775-1865, d Springfield, IL (his grandson, John, was Lincoln's personal secretary) 3. Elizabeth Hay Ingmand, ca 1777-1853, d Ashland Co, OH 4. Catherine "Kitty" Hay Selby, 1780-1830, d Ashland Co, OH 5. Susannah Hay Newkirk, 1781-1841, d Fairfield Co, OH 6. Eve Ann Hay Leathers, 1782-1861, d Richland Co, IL 7. Rosannah Hay Abbott, 1783-1852, d Fairfield Co, OH 8. Jonathan Hay, 1786-1868, d Viroqua, Wisc. 9. Peter Hay, 1788-1852, d Fairfield Co, OH, buried Presbyterian Cem. (not sure if he is a son. He wasn't listed in Adam's will, but neither was oldest brother, John. He had 2 cousins named Peter born about the same time, but both are accounted for.)
