With his parents he came to America in the year 1852. His parents died soon after their arrival in this country and he was reared by an uncle. He was married March 27, 1863, to Maria Clara Lange. This union was blessed with ten children. Mr. Pieper and family resided at Washington, Mo., until 1867, when they moved to Kansas where they settled on a farm northeast of Humboldt. For more than 40 years they met the defeats and victories incident to farming in Kansas. Twelve years ago he retired from the farm and moved to Humboldt with his wife and youngest son. After the death of his wife on January 5, 1916, he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Fred Seefken, of Humboldt. Mr. Pieper was a life-long member of the Lutheran church. Mr. Pieper was a private in Co. E., Franklin County Reserve Corps, Missouri Home Guards, to which he held an honorable discharge. Six children survive him: August F., John E., Fred W., Albert W. Pieper; Mrs. H. C. Gerken and Mrs. Fred Seefken. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. P. C. Kraus at the Lutheran church at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery.
