Description	:	Grandfather, Johann Heinrich Hayen, was born in Mons, Germany on October 23, 1851. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Leerhafe. Mons and Leerhafe is located in the northern area of Germany called Ostfriesland which in turn would be referred to here as a county. He came to the united States in 1870. When he arrived in Jones County, Iowa, he made his home with the Wessel Hanken family. ......and he worked there for his room and board that winter. In the summer he worked for other farmers to earn money... Read More	Grandfather, Johann Heinrich Hayen, was born in Mons, Germany on October 23, 1851. He came to the united States in 1870. When he arrived in Jones County, Iowa, he made his home with the Wessel Hanken family. ......and he worked there for his room and board that winter. In the summer he worked for other farmers to earn money for clothes and other needs. In 1875, Hayo Hayen and his wife Anna came over from Germany and on March 6, 1876, Grandfather Johann Heinrich and his brother Hayo bought eighty acres of land for $6,000.00 in Section 26 in Wayne Township. On January 28, 1879, Hayo Hayen and his wife dissolved partnership and sold Johnn Heinrich the eighty acres. On February 5, 1881, Grandfather, Johann Heinrich bought the seventy seven acres in Section 23 from Joseph and Isadaia Perryman for $2,310.00. On April 9, 1881, he also bought 40 more acres from Mary J. Perryman Wentworth and her husband L.D. Wentworth for $1,360.00. This was an estate of Luke Perryman. On February 24, 1900, Johann Heinrich also bought the three acre piece of property in the northeast corner of Section 23 from Harm G. Husmann and wife Catherine.
