Stutt, a well known farmer of Lovell township, died at his home last Friday at 12:30 p.m. He had suffered a heart attack at his home the preceding day and lapsed into unconsciousness until death ensued on Friday. Funeral services for Mr. Stutt were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township. The church was filled to capacity by a large group of relatives and friends. The service was in charge of Rev. Henry L. Adix, pastor of St. Matthews Lutheran church, assisted by Rev. F. H. Kehren, pastor of Zion Lutheran church. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Born in Wayne Township Mr. Stutt was born in Wayne township, Jones county, May 3, 1867. He was a son of John and Mary (Harms) Stutt, both natives of Germany. His father came to this country in 1861 and served as a soldier in the Civil war. The subject of this sketch was reared in Jones county and attended the common schools. At the age of 22 he began his business career as a farmer. He first bought a farm in Wayne township and later bought a farm in Lovell township. At one time he was the owner of an 80-acre farm in South Dakota. Mr. Stutt removed to his Lovell township farm in 1906 which was known as the old Hosford place. At one time he was greatly interested in threshing and owned a modern traction engine and also a large gasoline engine which was used as power for the threshing machine. He was also an extensive cattle buyer. Married in 1889 Mr. Stutt was married to Catherine M. Zimmerman of Wayne township in 1889. Eight children were born to this union, four of whom survive: Clarence of Lovell township, Emil and George, living home farm, and Alva, of Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Stutt passed away May 1, 1908. On October 19, 1909 Mr. Stutt married Catherine M. Balster, a native of Germany, who survives with his four sons. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Politically Mr. Stutt allied himself with the democratic party but never evidenced a desire to participate in local politics. He was a member of the Lutheran church and when his health permitted attended its services. State Representative Mr. Stutt was elected state representative from Jones county and served during the period from 1910 to 1912. He was also president of the Jones County Trust and Savings bank from the time of its organization in January, 1916 until it was absorbed by the Monticello State bank in January, 1926. He was a man of wide acquaintance and had many friends who will be eager to offer condolences to his family.
