Description	:	The passing of the subject of this sketch draws the mantle over a span of 70 years activity, beginning with his birth in Germany on February 17, 1857 and ending in death at Omaha, February 23, 1927. He was united in marriage to Mary Liehtenhaus Aug. 16, 1877, moving to Carroll, Iowa, where they resided for six years, thereafter removing to Antelope county. In 1893 the family moved to the farm a mile south and two west of Winnetoon, where they constantly resided for 22 years and retired to Creighton in 1915. Death resulted after a serious illness. He was united in marriage to Mary Liehtenhaus Aug. 16, 1877, moving to Carroll, Iowa, where they resided for six years, thereafter removing to Antelope county. In 1893 the family moved to the farm a mile south and two west of Winnetoon, where they constantly resided for 22 years and retired to Creighton in 1915. Death resulted after a serious illness. Henry Schwartz was active in county affairs, serving as Supervisor from the 3rd district from 1905 to 1915. In 1922 he was elected from the 7th district and served for four years being latterly chosen as chairman. In 1907 he was selected as president of the Farmers' Union Telephone company of Winnetoon, being associated in the directorate for 17 years. He was a charter member of the M.W.A. organization at Winnetoon, affiliating therewith Sept. 7, 1897. Nor were his activities restrictive, being identified with community enterprise on many occasions and his counsel was sought by not few, but many and on diverse occasions. To Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz eleven children were born, three of whom and the mother preceded the father in death. Surviving are Mrs. F.C. Preston, Omaha, Joe Schwartz, Winnetoon, John Schwartz Verdigre, Wm. Schwartz, Winnetoon, Ed Schwartz, Pierce, Arnold Schwartz, Pierce, Lillian Schwartz, Omaha. Funeral services were held from St. Ludger Catholic church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Solemn High Mass was celebrated, which was participated in by the pastor, Father Windolph and Fathers Bluhm of Baker, S.D and Mester of Pierce. Father Windolph spoke glowingly of the life time work of the decease and exhorted his honesty ans sincerity. The good many friends of the deceased packed the spacious church and thereby attested their final respect for their fellowman. Active pallbearers were the six stalwart sons and honorary pallbearers, Seth Jones and A.A. Baker of Winnetoon, Stephen Mattern, John Darcy Sr., Matt Wagner and Joseph P. Ryan of Creighton. Interment was made in the family plot in St. Ludger cemetery. ...The Creighton News Feb 1927 After moving to America, Henry dropped the e at the end of his name and inserted a t. Henry, at one time, was part owner of The Big Store in Winnetoon. His son, Joe had a John Deere dealership and his son-in-law, Frank Preston ran the butcher shop in Winnetoon.
