HULS LAID TO REST LAST FRIDAY John Hilmer Huls, son of Hilmer Huls and Mary Huls nee Fecht, was born Dec. 31, 1865 at Wiesen Ostfriesland in Germany. Shortly after his birth he was received into the fellowship of the Triune God by means of holy baptism. At the age of twelve his mother was called to her eternal reward. After receiving due instruction in the fundamental doctrines of Gods word he was confirmed by his pastor, the Rev. Focken, on Febr. 20, 1880. In the same year the deceased came to our beloved land with his father, brother and sister, and settled on a farm in Gage county, Nebraska On April 12, 1896 he entered into the estate of holy matrimony with Katherine Agena. God blessed their marriage with four children. One daughter, Margaret, preceded her father in death on May 18, 1828. The deceased lived on a farm near Filley, Nebr. Until 1900, when he moved northwest of Sterling. There he lived until 1937 when he retired to Sterling. Since the early part of June the departed began failing in health. The Lord, into whose hands he had commended himself, finally delivered him from all evil on Christmas eve as we confidently hoe. He reached an age of seventy-nine years, eleven months and twenty-four days. Those to mourn his loss are his bereaved widow , three children, Mrs. Mary Williams, John Huls, Jr., and Mrs. Ida Buss, all of Sterling; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John Echoff of Beatrice, and a host of near relatives and friends. On Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, the remains were laid to rest in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery two miles west of Sterling, Pastor Jos. Gerken of Tecumseh officiating
