Huls, 92 years of age, of Sterling, died at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh on Friday morning, March 24, 2000. He was born on July 30, 1907 at rural Sterling, to John H. and Katherina Agena Huls and was baptized on august 5, 1907. He received his early education at county school and was confirmed on May 15, 1921 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling, with the confirmation verse of psalm 27:1. He married Alma Pardee on April 4, 1937 at the St. John Lutheran Church parsonage. They lived and farmed northwest of Sterling for ten years. They moved into Sterling in 1947. He did commercial trucking for nearly 70 years and also was in the construction business for many years. He served District #3 as county commissioner for two terms. He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling, and was on the cemetery board. He was a long time member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed all makes of trucks and driving around the countryside. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Katherina Agena Huls, his wife Alma who died on February 24, 2000, two sisters, Margaret Huls and Mary Williams. Funeral services for John G. Huls were held Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling, with Pastor Mark Follett officiating with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Charles Bartels in charge. Zink-Fox Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
