Description	:	Johanna Firley, daughter of Henry and Louise Vorderstrasse Potthast was born September 29, 1913 at Deshler, Nebraska. Johanna was the third child of six children. She passed away February 18, 1996 at the Thayer County Memorial Hospital, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 19 days. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church October 12, 1913. Johanna was the third child of six children. She passed away February 18, 1996 at the Thayer County Memorial Hospital, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 19 days. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church October 12, 1913. She received her education at Peace Lutheran School and was confirmed by Pastor Schwerin on May 29, 1927. She was united in marriage to Adolph Firley on October 22, 1931. Adolph and Hanna farmed near Deshler and while living at Deshler their oldest son Albert was born. In 1936 they moved to a farm northeast of Chester. Darlene, Velma, Norma Jean, Adolph, Marie were born at Chester, Nebraska. In 1944 her beloved daughter Norma Jean passed away. Adolph and Hanna farmed many years and enjoyed this occupation and working side by side. In 1969 Adolph retired and they moved to their home in Chester. At this time Hanna cooked and baked at Foote Cafe, a job she enjoyed very much. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. Adolph and Hanna enjoyed celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in October of 1981. Hanna welcomed each new person into her family with a loving heart. She thought each new baby was most special. She loved her home and the community. Hanna was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lousie Potthast; husband Adolph Firley on May 21, 1989; one daughter, Norma Jean; three brothers, Henry Potthast, Martin Potthast, John Potthast, one sister, Louise Fangmeyer. Hanna is survived by two sons, Albert Firley of Wahoo, Nebraska, Adolph Firley and his wife Joan of Lincoln, Nebraska; three daughters, Darlene Rischling of Lincoln, Velma Kotas and her husband Don of Lincoln, Marie Vavra and her husband Don of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Zoch of Deshler, Nebraska, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held at the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Nebraska, Wednesday, February 21, 1966 at two o'clock PM, conducted by Pastor William Larsen. Music was by the congregation with Mrs. Alvin Poppe as organist. Casket Bearers were Bradley Firley, Craig Firley, Jon Eisenhauer, Michael Firley, Michael Steffensmeier and Bill Wallace. Honorary casket bearers were Mike Tipton, Maurice Mitchell, Harold Crouse, Chris Frye, Martin Raatz, Bill Moore, Michael Gausman, Marvin Harmes, James Vorderstrasse and Marlin Smith. Interment was at the Chester Cemetery.
