Johanna O'Connell was born in Washington, PA, on May 10, 1851. When a small child she came to Bremer County where she resided until death. On May 10, 1869, in Bremer County, she was united in marriage to John Guiney. To this union was born five children, William of Clark, South Dakota; Edward M., Mary Ellen, Mrs. Frank Sager, Rosa, Mrs. Frank Robinson and Fannie A., of this place. Besides the children and husband, she leaves to mourn her death two sisters and one brother, they are: Nora, Mrs. Philip Bowen, Fort Dodge; Bridget, Mrs. Patrick Sullivan, Cherokee; and Morris O'Connell, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; also one grandchild, Lloyd Sager. Mrs. Guiney's illness extended over a period of many months and was borne by her with a patience which is worthy of comment. She was a woman possessed of sterling qualities, a good neighbor, a royal entertainer, and, thoughtful of every ones comforts and has a large circle of friends and acquaintances who will mourn her departure. In her home she was a loving wife, and a dear good mother, "and her children rise up and call her blessed." That these children loved her dearly, was made manifest in the attentions lavished upon her during her illness. The funeral services were held at the St. Mary's Catholic church in Waverly, on Thursday morning with interment in the cemetery at that place. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
