Description	:	The community was shocked Tuesday morning to learn of the death of Mrs Johannah Gerke, wife of L C Gerke of north of town, which had occurred Monday night at a hospital in Marshalltown. Mrs Gerke had been a sufferer from gall stones and appendicitis was performed Monday evening. Pneumonia, a complicated feared in such cases, developed and she lived only a short time. Mrs Gerke was born at State Center February 22, 1868. Her maiden name was Johanne Fricke. She was married at State Center July 7, 1894 and had always lived near there. Her husband and ten children survive her. The later are Laurence, Louis, Jr, Conrad, Fred, Martin, Rosetta, Dorothy, Leora and Edith Gerke and Mrs Henry Tisler, all of near State Center. Five brothers and a sister also are living. They are Louis Fricke, Delhi, NY; E A, F E, and Will Fricke and Mrs L Eckhart, State Center; Ernest Fricke, Kandiyohi, Minnesota and Mrs Louisa Krueger, Baxter. The funeral is being held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 at the French Grove Lutheran church, in charge of Rev A W Brauer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr Gerke and other members of the family in their hour of bereavement. September 14, 1922 State Center Enterprise.
