Description	:	Louis C Gerke, prominent State Center farmer and longtime resident of this community, died of heart trouble at St Thomas Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown early Tuesday morning. Mr Gerke had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services were held at the home in State Center at 1:30 pm and at St John's Lutheran Church north of State Center at 2:00 pm today with Rev G H Perlich officiating. Mr Gerke had been in failing health for several years. Burial was in the family lot in St John's church cemetery. Mr Gerke was born at Plano, Illinois, November 16, 1864. He moved to State Center with his parents, the late William and Dorothea Gerke when he was two years old. He married Johanna Fricke July 7th, 1894 and she preceded him in death. Ten children were born to this union, eight of whom survive. They are Lawrence, Louis, Martin, Dorothy and Leora Gerke of State Center, Conrad of Baxter and Rose Gerke and Mrs Edith Legett of Marshalltown. A daughter, Mrs Caroline Tisler died in 1923 and a son Frederick in 1926. He is also survived by two brothers, Henry and August Gerke and a sister, Mrs Rosetta Edler, all of State Center. Another brother, William Gerke, died in 1909. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. February 27, 1941 State Center Enterprise.
