Anderson of Near Pilot Mound Fatally Injured While Driving Home From Church Last Sunday. John August Anderson, a man 86 years old was killed last Sunday afternoon near the Dayton ball park where a game was in progress. Mr. Anderson and his wife were returning to their home near Pilot Mound after having attended church services here and while passing the ball park the horse became frightened by a red automobile which had been left beside the road. Mr. Anderson got out of the buggy and tried to stop the horse by holding him by the bridle, but was thrown to the ground and trampled upon. The horse ran back toward town and Mrs. Anderson was thrown out but was not seriously injured being only painfully bruised. Dr. Padgham was sent for and the injured man was taken at once in an automobile to the Commercial Hotel. It was apparent that he had received fatal injuries. His chest above the heart was crushed, several ribs and the breast bone being broken. One hand was slightly cut and from the imprint on his chest it was apparent that a foot of the horse had inflicted the injury. Mr. Anderson lived less than an hour after the accident, death being due to internal hemorrhage. The funeral was held at the Lutheran Church in Dayton Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. To the aged wife and the children the sympathy of the entire community goes out in this hour of sudden bereavement. Death at a tripe old age such as Mr. Anderson's is in a measure robbed of its sadness, when it comes peacefully, but in the shock of his accidental death there is a deeper sadness to cast a gloom over all.
