Description	:	John A. Bergan, oldest son of Thomas and Julia (Shea) Bergan, was born Jan. 16, 1907 at Volga City, Iowa, where he spent the greater part of his life. Because of delicate health, his boyhood was different from other children and he was happy to spend most of the time in his own home. He was of a kind and gentle nature and patient through years of suffering. He was a devout Catholic and spent a great deal of time in prayer and spiritual meditation. Bergan, oldest son of Thomas and Julia (Shea) Bergan, was born Jan. 16, 1907 at Volga City, Iowa, where he spent the greater part of his life. Because of delicate health, his boyhood was different from other children and he was happy to spend most of the time in his own home. He was of a kind and gentle nature and patient through years of suffering. He was a devout Catholic and spent a great deal of time in prayer and spiritual meditation. On April 2, 1938 his father passed away, and for the past two years the home has been made with his brother, Thomas Jr. and family near Elkader, where he passed away Sunday, May 4, at the age of thirty-four years, three months, and eighteen days. He was comforted by the last rites of the Catholic church and his pastor, Msgr. Taken, was at his bedside when the end came. He leaves to mourn his death, his mother, Mrs. Julia Bergan, one sister, Mae, three brothers, Thomas, Harold and Leo, six nieces and four nephews, besides numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, May 6, at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Elkader, with burial at Volga City. Pall bearers were cousins Cecil Glennon, Leo Little, Glen Little, Harry Shea, Donald Shea, and Loy Shea.
