William Harold Bergan, son of Thomas and Julia Shea Bergan, was born February 17, 1912, at Volga, and died Tuesday, September 17, 1957, at Elkader, at the age of forty-five years and seven months. He attended the Volga schools. In 1934, he was married to Thelma Carmichael of Fayette. They were the parents of seven children, all of whom survive; Mrs. Howard (Lorna) Landas, Fayette; Mrs. Wm. (Elaine) Pfeiffer, Limestone, Maine; Mrs. Louis (Lois) Bishop, Cedar Falls; William, Mary, Betty, and Donald, all at home in Cedar Falls; also seven grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Julia Bergan, Strawberry Point; two brothers, Leo, Strawberry Point; Thomas, Elkader, and one sister, Mae Bergan, Elkader. His father preceeded him in death in 1938, and a brother, John in 1941. The Rev. Martin Laughlin, assistant pastor at Elkader, officiated at the gravesite. Friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Gray, Alfred Stearns, Mr. Nefzgar and Wm. Orr, Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ashby, Randalia; Mrs. Zita Humbert, Volga, and Bernard Hurley, South Milwaukee, Wis.
