The record states his name as "Johanem" and his parents are listed as "Joseph Boules and Cath Etienne" and his sponsors are listed as "Johanis Etienne". The record also states that he was born on the 24th of December. The Hancock Jeffersonian., January 30, 1863, pg 3, clm. 2 In a list of casualties of the 21st O.V, I. John Boley is listed as having been wounded in the leg. (He came home... Smith in January of 1866 HISTORY OF SENECA COUNTY pg 622 - (Loudon Township) Relief Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 was organized in 1873, with Milton Beaver, secretary; John Bowly, president, and George Cramer, foreman. In April. 1885. J. G. Calahan was appointed president; George Boley, vice-president; John McLaughlin, foreman; F. P. Lindsey, secretary, and Boley, Hale, and McLaughlin, trustees. Boley proprietor of the Toledo and Ohio Hotel, ordered one of his boarders, George Sebling, to leave, and because he did not go he shot him. The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Tuesday, June 2, 1896, - Under the heading "Buckeye Briefs" - J.A. Boley of Fostoria was arrested yesterday on the charge of shooting with the intent to kill. He waived examination and was bound over in the sum of $500. OBITUARY - Dec 15, 1915, "J. A. Boley's Death Tuesday afternoon Shock to Freinds" - "Attained rank of the Second lieutenant During the Civil War - Was a Retired Lumber Dealer G.A.R. to attend Funeral - A stroke of apoplexy suffered by John A. Boley at his South Poplar Street home Tuesday morning resulted in his death Tuesday afternoon at 4:05 o'clock. Few people were aware of his condition and his death was a shock to his many friends. Mr. Boley was born near Alvada on Dec 23, 1841, making his age about 74 years. When a small boy, came to Fostoria with his Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Boley, and has since made Fostoria his home. Had he lived till next month, He and Mrs. Boley would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. He was married to Miss Sevilla A. Smith in January of 1866. She and two children survive they are Charles Boley of Deshler and Mrs. Ada Truax of Sycamore. Two grandchildren and Two great-grandchildren also survived. The surviving brothers and sisters are Joseph Boley of Alvada; Frank of Hillsboro Ore; Mrs. Clara Elder of this city. For many years Mr. Boley was engaged in the lumber business with Messrs. Portz, Coldwater, and Meinecke, who conducted The Eureka planing mill. He retired from active business life about 10 years ago. He had been in poor health the past year, suffering from heart trouble. This winter he suffered greatly from Asthma. He enlisted in the Army at the outbreak of the Civil War and was promoted from private to Second Lieutenant. He served in Co. A 21st O.V.I. He was a member of Norris post-G.A.R. and the members of this patriotic organization will have charge of the funeral services, which will be held from his late home Friday morning at 10 o'clock Rev. M.E. Gibson will officiate in the absence of the city of H.E. Armacost. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery. Contributor: (50744568)
