LAMBERT, an old settler now residing in Correctionville, was born in Tennessee, December 8, 1831, a son of Adam and Hannah (Crouse) Lambert, both natives of Tennessee and of German descent. Adam Lambert engaged in farming in Winneshiek county, Iowa, from 1857, when he moved there from Madison county, Ind., until his death, which occurred in 1881; his wife survived him only until the following spring. LAMBERT, an old settler now residing in Correctionville, was born in Tennessee, December 8, 1831, a son of Adam and Hannah (Crouse) Lambert, both natives of Tennessee and of German descent. Adam Lambert engaged in farming in Winneshiek county, Iowa, from 1857, when he moved there from Madison county, Ind., until his death, which occurred in 1881; his wife survived him only until the following spring. John A. was born and reared on a farm, and resided with his parents until twenty-one years of age, when he engaged in farming for himself in Madison county, Ind. In 1857 he moved to Winneshiek county, Iowa, and in 1868 to Woodbury county, and took up a homestead in Union township, where he farmed until 1885; since then he has rented out his farm and lived in Correctionville. January 11, 1854, he married Susan Neal, and they have had eight children, all of whom are living: Florence L., wife of James Crowther, living in Nebraska; Mary I., wife of T.J. Wright, of Nebraska; William W., who is at present living in Washington; James L., living in Plymouth county, Iowa; Estella, wife of George Wilson, living in Woodbury county; Martha B., wife of William Waxler, living in Kingsley; Omer and Milbert G., both living in Correctionville. Mrs. Lambert passed to her final rest March 11, 1890, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and an earnest Christian woman. In politics Mr. Lambert votes the republican ticket, and has been trustee of Union township about five years, and also held the office of school director. ººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººº JOHN LAMBERT'S OBITUARY: The Correctionville News THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1914 John A. Lambert John A. Lambert was born in Tennessee Dec. 8, 1831. While still a small boy he moved with his family to Indiana, where he grew to manhood. In 1853 he was married to Susan Neal. To them were born four daughters and four sons, all of whom survive. Mrs. Florence L. Crowther of Santa Anna, Cal., Mrs. Mary I. Wright of Niobrara, Neb.. Wm. W. Lambert of Seattle, Wash., James L. Lambert of Vermillion. S. D., Mrs. Estella Wilson of Litchfield. Neb., Mrs. Belle Waxler of Kingsley, Omar A. Lambert of Chicago, and Grant M. Lambert of Lake Side, Neb. In 1856 he and his family moved to Winneshiek county, this state, and ten years later they settled on his homestead on Union Ridge, north of town. In 1885 he moved to Correctionville. His first wife having died in 1889. He was married a second time, in 1892, to Abigail Samuels of Kingsley. For the past two years he had been residing at the home of his son, J. L. Lambert, in Vermillion. S. D. On the morning of Sept. 29th last, when one of the members of the family went to his room to call him to the morning meal, it was discovered that during the night his spirit had left its earthly dwelling for the Heavenly home. His age at the time of death was 82 years, nine months, and 21 days. A short funeral service was held in the home, after which the remains were brought here by train. Last Friday at 1:30 p. m., funeral services were held in the M. E. church here, in charge of the Rev. Patterson of Pierson. Interment was made in the family lot in the local cemetery. The deceased was a kind and loving husband and father, and an earnest and thorough Christian. His sorrow-relatives have the consolation of knowing that he awaits, upon the further shore, their coming to join him. Card of Thanks.
