A Lambert at her home in Correctionville, Tuesday morning, March 11, 1890 of heart disease at the age of 59 years. Miss Susan Neal was born in Indiana January 5, 1831, and was married to J.A. Lambert, January 11, 1851. In 1855 they went to Winneshiek county, living there about ten years, when they came in this county taking up a homestead in Union township where they lived for 17 years and have for the last five years lived in Correctionville. Mrs.. Lambert had been a member of the church for over thirty years and lived a devout Christian life, being ready to meet her God in heaven. She was always social and pleasant and had a smile for everybody. The loss of her from our midst is most sincerely regretted by all and the husband and children of the deceased have the sympathy of the community. Mrs. Lambert was at church last Sunday and was as well as usual Monday and did her regular washing. She went to bed a little earlier than she usually did and in the night her heart commenced to bother her a little as was often the case. She applied some remedies and went to bed again feeling better and seemed to sleep well. About three o'clock in the morning Mr. Lambert woke up and noticed that she was sleeping nicely and in about fifteen minutes Mrs. Lambert commenced to breathe very heavily and could not be awakened. At this her husband jumped out of bed and called Mr. Christy who lives next door, and lit a lamp and she was then beyond consciousness, not living over five minutes from the first demonstration of hard breathing and died before anybody could get to the house. Her son, Grant, was at the livery barn sleeping and could not be informed of her fate until she had passed away. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church yesterday afternoon at 1:30 and the body was buried in Union Ridge cemetery. Rev. LAMBERT, an old settler now residing in Correctionville, was born in Tennessee, December 8, 1831, a son of Adam and Hannah (Crouse) Lambert, both natives of Tennessee and of German descent. Adam Lambert engaged in farming in Winneshiek county, Iowa, from 1857, when he moved there from Madison county, Ind., until his death, which occurred in 1881; his wife survived him only until the following spring. John A. was born and reared on a farm, and resided with his parents until twenty-one years of age, when he engaged in farming for himself in Madison county, Ind. In 1857 he moved to Winneshiek county, Iowa, and in 1868 to Woodbury county, and took up a homestead in Union township, where he farmed until 1885; since then he has rented out his farm and lived in Correctionville. January 11, 1854, he married Susan Neal, and they have had eight children, all of whom are living: Florence L., wife of James Crowther, living in Nebraska; Mary I., wife of T.J. Wright, of Nebraska; William W., who is at present living in Washington; James L., living in Plymouth county, Iowa; Estella, wife of George Wilson, living in Woodbury county; Martha B., wife of William Waxler, living in Kingsley; Omer and Milbert G., both living in Correctionville. Mrs. Lambert passed to her final rest March 11, 1890, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and an earnest Christian woman. In politics Mr. Lambert votes the republican ticket, and has been trustee of Union township about five years, and also held the office of school director.
