Description	:	Funeral services for John A. "Coon" Salter, 87, who died Saturday afternoon, will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Young Funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Mr. Salter died at the family home on West Jefferson street, following a stroke suffered three weeks ago. Believed to be the oldest native resident of Cicero township, Mr. Salter was born December 18, 1856, on a farm southeast of Tipton. Mr. Salter died at the family home on West Jefferson street, following a stroke suffered three weeks ago. Believed to be the oldest native resident of Cicero township, Mr. Salter was born December 18, 1856, on a farm southeast of Tipton. Later, the family moved to Tipton where his father was employed in doing stonework for the old sheriff's residence and jail on South East street. His father, John R. Salter was a Civil War veteran and died here one year after his return from the war. Mr. Salter formerly lived where the light plant is now located on North East street and was employed in the stave factory here. Later he operated a dray line. Surviving are the widow, the former Sally Booher, whom he married 48 years ago and six children, one of whom is by an earlier marriage. They are Mrs. Neil Ramsayer of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. E. Glinda of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Jesse Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., John Salter in the armed forces, Harry Salter of Lina, Ohio, and Earl Salter, a son by a former marriage. A brother, Milton "Herr" Salter, of Kokomo, also survives. Seven brothers and a sister are deceased.
