Description	:	John Gruver passes to His Reward John Alexander Gruver was born at Chambersburg, Franklin county, Pennsylvania, January 4th, 1826 and died March 23rd, 1915, age 89 years, 2 months and 19 days. At the age of six years, he moved with his parents to Ohio, where he lived until 1852, when he moved to Iowa and settled at West Union. January 1st, 1846, Mr. Gruver was joined in marriage to Elizabeth Dorland, who preceded him in death November 2nd, 1907. From this union there were nine children, 6 sons and 3 daughters, one son and the three daughters passed away... At the age of six years, he moved with his parents to Ohio, where he lived until 1852, when he moved to Iowa and settled at West Union. January 1st, 1846, Mr. Gruver was joined in marriage to Elizabeth Dorland, who preceded him in death November 2nd, 1907. From this union there were nine children, 6 sons and 3 daughters, one son and the three daughters passed away in advance of their parents. Five sons still survive the father, namely: William J., of Elgin; John A., of West Union; Charles H., of Manly; Ulysses G., of Cedar Rapids; and Benton C., of Clermont. At an early age Mr. Gruver united with the M. E. church and all through life has adhered to his early faith. He was a good christian man and good father. He was a thorough Bible student. At the age of 23 years Mr. Gruver joined the Odd Fellows order and passed through the three brances to the highest rank of each. He was one of, if not the oldest Odd Fellow in the state, having joined the order in 1849. He remained true to this to his death. His five sons and their families were all present at his death. The funeral was held this afternoon at Elgin, interment being made in the Elgin city cemetery.
