Surviving are his widow, with who he celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary on September 17, and their two sons, Fay Gruver of Birmingham, Alabama, and G. A. Gruver o Long Beach, California and a brother, Ben Gruver of Clermont. Illness prevented G. A. Gruver from leaving California but his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Fay Gruver are in the city. Funeral services are to be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Turner Chapel with the Rev. James h. Blackstone Jr. of Westminster Church, where Mr. Gruver was member in charge. Burial will be in the family lot at Elgin, Iowa. All Master Masons are asked to meet with Mizpah Lodge at the Masonic Hall Thursday at 10:30 a.m. to attend the services Mr. Gruver was a member of Mizpah Lodge No. 639, of El Kahir Shrine, the White Shrine, and of the Order of Eastern Star in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Commandery at West Union. He was also a past president of the Kiwanis Club here being the second elected to that office. Residents of Cedar Rapids for the last thirty years Mr. and Mrs. Gruver have lived in their home at 1621 Washington Avenue SE for twenty-nine years. When they built their house, it was one of the last on the street and at the time considered the outskirts of the city. Born June 30, 1863, on a farm near West Union, Mr. Gruver became a skilled telegrapher and was later employed b y the B. C. R. and N. later the Rock Island Railroad for many years at Elgin, Oelwein, West Bend, Dysart, Decorah and West Union. He left the railroad employ in August 1906 to begin work with the American Refrigerator Transit, fast freight line, by which he was employed nearly twelve years as solicitor for perishable freight business. On May 1, 1918, he quit railroading and became associated with the late Almon S. Reed in the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company Agency. At the time of death, he was general agent for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company, although poor health had prevented his engaging actively in business since last fall. While employed as station agent in Elgin, Mr. Gruver became one of the Gazette's first correspondents, being given the assignment by the late Fred Faulkes, the former editor and one of the founders of this newspaper. Their acquaintance dated back to the days when Mr. Faulkes was a train dispatcher and Mr. Gruver was a boy learning the telegrapher's trade on the railroad.
