Death was the result of a liver infection from which he has suffered for some time. While not in the best of health, Mr. McConnell continued to be about and was strong enough to go for a short automobile ride yesterday. This morning he arose and was about his room. Shortly before noon, however, he laid down on the bed and died within a few minutes. Funeral arrangements had not been completed this afternoon, pending word from his son, J. Arthur McConnell, an employe of the Carnegie, Illinois Steel Company, in Baltimore. These arrangements will be announced in this newspaper tomorrow. The body was removed to the Hinton funeral home today. John Alexander McConnell was the son of John and Mary Pollock McConnell, and was born on the farm of his forebears in North Strabane township on December 13, 1861. He obtained his education in the township schools and continued in the pursuit of agriculture and stock raising all his life. He was united in marriage on March 6, 1884, to Nancy J. McPherson, who survives together with three children, John Arthur, of Baltimore; Walter S., at home, and Mrs. D. S. Pollock of Canonsburg. Mr. McConnell, as well as his family, was a member of the Canonsburg United Presbyterian church, Greenside avenue, where he was faithful in attendance and in the full membership, although he never would accept office in the congregation. He was a director of the First National Bank of this city for 28 years and took an active interest in the affairs of that institution. The news of his death came as a shock to his friends today, many of whom knew of his illness but none that his condition was so critical.
