Orangeville Sun, July 4, 1901, page 3 - Passed Away Friday afternoon Mr. John Allen of Mono died at the age of 82 years. He was born in County Sligo, Ireland, and seventy years ago settled with his parents on lot 6, con. 4, east, Mono - where he died. Some years ago Mr. and Mrs. Allen removed to Orangeville, where the latter passed away a few years ago. Since then the deceased gentleman has been living on the homestead with his only son, Mr. William Allen, a well known farmer of the township. Death was not due to any disease, but simply to old age. In his more active days he was a prominent farmer of Mono and took a keen interest in politics, being a staunch Conservative. He was a member of the Church of England and several years ago belonged to the Orange Order. Two daughters predeceased him, and one son, whom we have already mentioned, is the only surviving member of the family. He also leaves one brother, who resides at Wroxeter. The funeral took place on Sunday to St. John's cemetery, Mono, and was very largely attended. Mr. Allen was a man of sterling as well as genial qualities and was widely known and respected.
