John was born on October 7, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Harold and Rosella (Chicoine) Hinds. He was raised south of Elk Point and graduated from the Elk Point Public High School in 1972. He attended college in Denver where he studied to be an automotive and diesel mechanic. Read More	John Hinds, 60, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away, Monday, October 13, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. John was born on October 7, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Harold and Rosella (Chicoine) Hinds. He was raised south of Elk Point and graduated from the Elk Point Public High School in 1972. He attended college in Denver where he studied to be an automotive and diesel mechanic. On January 2, 1976, John married the love of his life, Marlene Meeves, and the two remained happily married until his passing. John spent 17 years doing body repair and paint work. He then became an auto and diesel mechanic, a job which he held for 42 years. He ended his working life as a gas serviceman for MidAmerican Energy. In his free time John loved to hunt and fish. He maintained a very large garden which he took great pride in. He once grew a watermelon that weighed 107 lbs. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and he could always be found attending as many of their events and activities as he could. John is survived by his wife, Marlene Hinds of Elk Point; his children, Isaac Hinds of Denver, Colorado, Holly Hinds of Sioux City, Iowa, and Levi (Karla) Hinds of Elk Point; his mother-in-law, Lavone Meeves of Smithland, Iowa; his sisters, Rosemary (John) Suing, Margaurete Hinds, and Renee (Doug) Irwin; his brother, Joe (Paula) Hinds; and his grandchildren, Kylie Hinds and Keaton Hinds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Rosella Hinds; and his brother, Tom Hinds.
