John Alvin was born July 10, 1921 in Union county, South Dakota, to John and Anna Frisk. He was baptized Aug. 24, 1921 in Immanuel Lutheran church, Akron, by Pastor Victor A. Lindeblad. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith, Aug. 16, 1936 by Pastor Carl W. Samuelson. He attended public school in Union county and graduated from Akron high school in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II with service in Germany. He married Phyllis Johnson, in a service at the Immanuel Lutheran church, officiated by Pastor David J. Roy. They farmed in Union county, South Dakota. Alvin was a very active member of his church throughout his life and was willing to serve in any way he could. He served several terms on the board of administration or church council of his church. It is clear that his Christian faith was the source of a dedicated Christian life in the service of others. His father was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran. He served as member of the Hoyt district (S.D.) school board and was treasurer of the Sioux Valley township S.D. board. Among those who survive his departure are, his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Kathy, Yankton, S.D.; two sons, Daryl, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Douglas, Hawarden; his mother, Mrs. Anna Frisk, Akron; and four grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father John Frisk, February of 1977. Peace be to the memory of John Alvin Frisk.
